Look At What the UPS Man Brought me!!

Hey Folks…. I’m Back.

I finally got to sew last night and after almost two full months away from a sewing machine, it was great!  Isn't it funny how an activity can be so fulfilling?  I knew I was "itching to sew", but I admit, I was surprised by the satisfaction that was brought by simply sitting down and sewing some pieces of fabric together...

I received notification from UPS while I was at work that a package had been delivered "To a nice young boy".  When your kid makes enough of an impression on the UPS man that he adds that to his delivery notes, it will make you beam with pride.  (At least it did for me!)  Of course as soon as the UPS man was gone, Jonathon's ornery side came out and he promptly hid my package so I would have to find it when I got home!!

And this is what I found behind the couch...

The box is HUGE.  Singer packs their machines VERY well.
AND then I read enough of the manual to get started.  Of course my “Supervisors” had to inspect the packaging and ensure that everything was in order…

Frappy, wondering if I'll notice if she jumps into the box...

Mocha.  Making sure I had gotten all of the bits and pieces out of the box.
My new machine.  Still a Singer, but a newer, sexier, more sophisticated model... I'm sure Betsy won't mind my soon to be affair with her younger cousin who doesn't have a name yet.  I was thinking "Susie Q", she does have the word Quantum printed right on her front, but after seeing her, Susie sounds kind of "girlish" for such a sleek machine.

Of course I needed to sew something, so I pulled out my old RRCB pieces to begin repurposing them into something new.  If you’ve been reading a while you might remember that I had started Bonnie Hunter’s Mystery Quilt last year and I had to abandon the project midstream.  I designed a few things so that I could use up the majority of the pieces I had already completed with as little waste as possible.  This is what I chose for my pattern:

Concept of Pattern... Colors will not be this bold.

I figured this would be a good place to start with my new machine.  I wanted to be completely random, so I put all of the pieces I was about to assemble into a bin and tossed them like a salad:

Then I started pulling them out and sewing… And that is when I pushed the pedal of my new machine for the first time, and I was instantly so thrilled with my recent purchase that I forgot to take any more photos!!

I will get a few “Action Shots” in the very near future and I will be doing a few thorough reviews of my new machine in the near future as well.

I have two projects that I have to finish this weekend and then I have a bunch of little projects to do for a “Craft Fair” my company is holding in three weeks.  Several people in the office talked me into participating, so I am going to make a bunch of coffee cozies, journal covers, a few table runners and go to the fair.

It’s good to be back…

Until Next Time,
Paul

  1. I sew on an older model of this same machine and love it. I can't wait to hear what you think of her because I have been thinking about an update.

  3. I'm so envious! I saw on Singer's FB page that you mentioned this machine was on its way. I've been coveting it for a while now. Please give us a full run-down once you've used it for a while. I'd love to hear/read a first hand review.
